Loukoumades and goblins

Θεοφάνεια (Epiphany)

In Cyprus today we celebrate Θεοφάνεια (Epiphany).

Should you happen to be in Cyprus on the 6th of January you will experience people gathering at the harbour, watching the priest throw a cross in the sea followed by many men jumping in to try and retrieve the cross for good luck.

One of our favorite traditions is also that today we cook “Loukoumades”, a delicious Cypriot sweet that people will throw on the roof to keep the goblins away!

Even if you are not in Cyprus on 6th of January many village fairs will always have a stand where Loukoumades are made, so do not miss the opportunity to try these amazing deep fried doughnuts with honey syrup!
